Finally, we have witnessed the many functions of a safer plant, faster growing than trees and more sustainable than the fossil fuels currently used for petrochemicals.And its controversial medicinal properties are amazing. A great deal of medical research proves the effectiveness of Cannabidiol in shrinking brain tumors and other cancers. We learned the government knew this as early as 1974, based on commissioned research. Its response was to shut down the study.ADDITIONALLYWe screened Water and Power, The Great Pacific Garbage Island, and a few YouTube shorts examining the water crisis in California. We know people who do not own the land have no say (or absolute right) to the water under the land, but did we understand that unless one can harness the water or control its flow, one cannot claim unchallengeable access to any water on which one’s land rests . . . and because of this, people would have died in Tulare County, California if not for the help and investigative journalism of Gilpin and Arax. Water districts statewide only recently are working to develop legislation and policy to restore and ensure the flow of water for communities and agriculture.Not only are we fighting to retain water under our feet, we are also focusing on cleaning up the ocean to improve the quality of marine life. So much plastic. The videos speak for themselves. This is a crisis that is going to be tragic in just a decade or so. The good news here is several organizations are actively working to clean up the Pacific Ocean now. But no one has stopped making plastic. And no one has identified where all the collected plastic is going to be stored.In your final presentation, examine either of these issues in Module III or Module IV: industrial hemp, medical marijuana, water rights in California, the plastic ocean.
