Question Answered Patricia is a 44-year-old female who lost her job because she is… Patricia is a 44-year-old female who lost her job because she is not feeling well, she can’t seem to get through the day, she can’t sleep well, and she feels tired all the time. “things seem very hard” she says, “I get to sleep OK when I have a few drinks that helps me sleep”. She states that she wakes up a lot often at 3 in the morning and can’t go back to sleep. She sleeps about five to six hours per night which has been a big change for her as she states that she used to sleep very well . She says she has one to two drinks most days and sometimes drinks to the point of blacking out which has happened more since she lost her job. At work she was told that she showed up late and missed work too often. She missed over 10 days of work in the last month and believes that number to be exaggerated. The patient has also been taking Percocet that she had left over from dental work she had done in the past which she takes a couple of times a day because it relaxes her. She states that her energy level is not good and that it feels like such a struggle to do things and is having trouble just getting out of bed and states she didn’t get out of bed yesterday. Patricia states that she cooks and showers every other day and does not have a good appetite. She feels she may have lost a few pounds as her clothes feels a little looser . Regarding concentration she states that at work they told her she was not being reliable and as a secretary she was messing up the minutes, she says it was because she found it hard to follow and just couldn’t keep her mind on it. The patient states that she thinks her life is pointless but has not really thought much about suicide but sometimes thinks it would be great if she did not wake up.Given the diagnosis of MDD.
