In this activity will learn how to use a number of different tools in this course. Reading and Writing Survey At this point, we’d like to consider the reading and writing already do on a daily basis. may be surprised by the results.Take the SurveysThis survey provides with one type of self-assessment. Self-assessment is an important skill in life outside of school as well. We continually self-assess in a variety of situations (e.g., can I afford to take extra days off work to visit a friend? Do I have time to fit in an extra episode of Game of Thrones?). For learning, we self-assess in order to understand areas that work and areas that need improvement in order to set new learning goals we want to achieve. Sharing the Results of Survey What conclusions can draw about reading and writing habits? For example, if I noticed that most of my reading involved reading texts and emails, but that I occasionally read longer non-fiction texts like magazine articles, and that I rarely read novels, I might conclude that I tend to prefer reading texts that have real-world significance for me—texts that help me do my job or give me information about how to do things. In a discussion, share conclusions about your reading and writing habits with your classmates. Find someone who has similar reading or writing habits to you and comment on their preferences, telling them something you read or wrote recently.Join the DiscussionKey Course ComponentsThere are three important components to this course that we’d like to introduce you to right now: the Reading Log, ePortfolio and Badges.Reading LogYou’ll use reading log to keep track of everything you read in this course.
