Question Answered step-by-step Below is a discussion I have typed out, I am going to be turning it… Below is a discussion I have typed out, I am going to be turning it in on Friday. I would like it if you can help me expand on the topic so I can complete a full page and turn it in. Please add to what I have stated and provide supporting evidence from sources. Please provide the sources used below. This is also completely out of your view so just kinda help me extend my topic more and add information I was unable to add, Thank you. My writing is below The Route 91 mass shooting was a devastating made-made disaster. What was supposed to be a great weekend full of good times and music, turned into a nightmare in an instant. “At least 58 people were killed and 500 wounded when a shooter opened fire” (Kreps, 2017). Police and EMS who were on the scene started responding immediately. The incident took place in an unincorporated part of Clark County, so a coordinated response from the surrounding counties was needed. The fire department, the community emergency response team and more police/EMS were called to the scene (Heightman et al, 2018). Thankfully, those who responded to the incident were trained to know the disaster plan should an incident arise. Afterall, Las Vegas holds many different large events aside from Route 91. “However, with a shooter firing 1,100 rounds of high-caliber bullets from high above the venue, hitting attendees as well as EMS personnel and police officers, this incident demanded a more improvised approach” (Heightman et al, 2018). Responders were not prepared for a casualty this big. “A more formalized ICS process was adopted after the shooting stopped and more information was obtained from law enforcement” (Heightman et al, 2018). Given the circumstances, the emergency workers triaged those who were injured in a timely fashion. They were able to send off those who needed abrupt medical care as quickly as possible. The only way to improve the response for future incidents is to learn from what happened in instances such as this. Better training to have a better structured and tactical response could help those who are set to respond to these types of mass casualties. References Heightman, A., Simpson, A., & Smith, J. (2018).
