Question Answered step-by-step Mandy, 18, has just been admitted to a court-mandated… Mandy, 18, has just been admitted to a court-mandated substance-abuse treatment center after pleading guilty to driving under the influence. Mandy is an actress who lives in Los Angeles with her parents. She is an only child and has been working in television since she was 14 years old. After she started working, she sometimes attended a traditional high school, but more often she was tutored because her work schedule conflicted with class times. Her parents are still married, although they have separated several times, beginning when Mandy was about 15. She reports that her parents have always fought a lot and that she often feels as though her career is the only thing they have in common. Shortly after her parents’ first separation, Mandy began experimenting with alcohol and marijuana. Even when she was a minor, she and her friends could easily get into clubs, where they began using a variety of “club drugs” such as ecstasy and cocaine. She still uses drugs in some social situations (“Everybody does it,” she says), but she prefers alcohol, which she reports using on “most days of the week, but usually not heavily until the weekends.” When asked whether she thinks she has a drinking problem, she replies, “Not at all. I just drink to let off steam. There’s a lot of pressure if you want to succeed in my business, so if I let loose now and then, I think I’ve earned it. A lot of people depend on me. Besides, I don’t drink nearly as much as my parents or most of my friends.”Mandy still lives at home with her parents. She has considered moving in with one of her friends, but she worries that her “mom and dad will fall apart” if she’s not there for them to “obsess about.” Her relationship with her parents is complicated. She is close to her mother, but they argue frequently about Mandy’s career, her finances, and her relationship with her father. She argues less with her father, but she admits that he “tries to make up for the family dysfunction by treating me like his little princess.” 1. Based on what you have learned about Mandy’s history and her attitude about her use of substances, what are some elements that will be particularly important to evaluate during the assessment process? Describe how you, as Mandy’s nurse, would want to proceed with her assessment.2. What nursing diagnoses do you believe would be appropriate for Mandy at this time? Explain.
