Communication plays a big part in our life. Rather it’s the conversations we have over the phone or the conversations we have face to face with people like family, friends, coworkers, strangers, etc. A big part of learning how to communicate with others starts at school. Going to college is a step up in communication, especially for students because they have to learn how to communicate and get things handled on their own. I happen to go to one of the best colleges in Florida, which is not too expensive and gives everyone around the world a fair chance at education and success. I proudly attend Miami Dade College. The communication between staff and students at Miami Dade is set to a minimum. There can be a lot of improvement done in the communication side of Miami Dade. As a student, I recommend that Miami Dade put more effort into hiring more people so that the wait time to see someone or talk to someone in person isn’t that long. Often students and parents are spending hours waiting to be assisted that sometimes they do not get to see anyone and other times they are angry from waiting that they never get their problem resolved. Miami Dade can also better their communication by setting the right people in place to speak to. No one wants to speak to someone after hours of waiting just to be told that they can not be helped and happened to wait again to see or speak with another department. I can improve my communication to better help the staff by knowing exactly what I need help with, that way they aren’t sending me to so many different people. I can also pay close attention to listening to what they are telling me to do, instead of talking over them and end up not understanding whatever was stated. Communication is huge and everyone struggles at it in some aspect, but in order to better our communication, we have to be willing to work together.
